We didn't have
a refrigerator
until my first child was born. No, we had terracotta things we used
to stand it in, like a terracotta stand that you put your jugs in,
that was supposed to keep them cool. And also the back of this funny
little cottage, it didn't have a back door to it, there was a field
at the back, but it backed onto the north so it was quite cool there.
Stand it in water. Get some water from the tap outside. But it had
gone by the next morning anyway. We drank much more milk in those
days than we do now, I think it was the thing to do. You were supposed
to have good teeth, good constitution if you drank milk. I suppose
we drank extra because dear Monty used to give us extra being the
Good Samaritan. |
