We were then fortunate to have a tap put into the kitchen and that was a luxury - running cold water! Not too long after that, because we had gas and electricity in the house, we had a very small gas Ascot type boiler with a half inch pipe, so you only got a little water, so obviously the galvanised boiler still came into its own. For hand washing, woolen things like that and personal washing we had some hot water, and then, my Father changed jobs so we had a bit more money, and they bought a washing machine - just a single tub.
