Click here to listenDid you produce anything-you mentioned a nightdress?

Well, I can remember that definitely, a very pretty nightdress, with ribbon woven through proper slots. I embroidered round the waist and I made a very pretty muslin apron. I can remember that very distinctly too.

Did you have to provide your own materials?

Yes, we provided our own materials.

Click here to listenHow old were you when you began to make your own clothes?

Oh, I suppose I was in my twenties, I suppose twenty-ish, you know, when I started, went to business...I started to try - you know make them a bit.

Before that - did your mother make them?

My mother used to make them for me - of course! Used to make all mine - yes, pretty dresses and things.
