Technology in the Home |
Newspapers People have always wanted to hear the latest news and gossip- and one method of mass communication is the newspaper By the time printing technology had been developed for mass production, newspaper distribution could be maximised to include remote areas. This was particularly evident in the 18th Century; and as more and more people learnt to read, news could be printed and communicated to people from all walks of life, not just the gentry or aristocracy. Later, when communication technology had developed even further, the radio became a major form of mass communication, reaching ever deeper into people's privacy and daily lives. The radio- once a rare commodity for the privileged few became a luxury item for many, and as time progressed, the radio became a common item in the household. The same can be said of the television set, today which is a dominant form of mass communication.
