Peter moved job after a couple
of years and went to work in Essex, for a company known as John H Burrows.
Peter was interviewed by one of the deputies and then eventually by the
owner. He felt that he had "hit the big time" as he was being
offered £4 a week at the age of 18- he promptly took to it like
a shot. Technology had moved on quite considerably by this time (c.1951)
as a modern printing press had been installed. Peter felt that during
the short time he had been working in the newspaper industry he had moved
from Caxton's time all the way to modern times in one leap.
