There are a few remaining traditions
left in the newspaper industry, such as Father of the Chapel (FOC) who
was actually the shop steward. This tradition began with the monks who
would be governed by the Father of their Chapel, whilst writing and printing
bibles and other forms of religious material. The Print Unions have largely
vanished, but you still have to be a member of the journalist's Union
to work on Fleet Street.
