Off Duty Activities...
Life at Winterton
was more intense than Prestatyn and although there was a "k"
site in the same guarded compound we had very little to do with their
personnel they lived in separate huts and had no idea of what we did.
Our off duty
activities were mainly cycling (I visited dozens of Norfolk chuches)
sailing to Yarmouth for the cinema and Norwich for a day out. At nearby
Hemsby part of the beach was clear of mines for swimming but not used
very often.
One Autumn day
in 1944 I was learning camp on my bike and I fell to the ground and
heard loud report. It was a V2, I was not hurt a little damage was done
and it fell in the sand dunes between the living accommodation and the
sea.
