Technical Staff...

The technical staff usually consisted of a RAF Technical Officer, Stt, Sgt, Sgt and 2 Cpls as well as two mechanics a watch. The officer in charge of WAAF was also the admin officer assisted by a WAAF Sgt. There was a WAAF corporal on day duties and each watch usually consisted of 4 WAAF and 2 RAF operators and 1 or 2 RAF mechanics. The men were usually sent overseas after a few months experience and conversely some who had been overseas returned to the home chain.

By Dec 1943 most of the young men had been posted overseas and in January 1944 several WAAF were posted to type 7000 GCI or Katie courses and even 9000. These names were mentioned in hushed tones, none of us knew what they were controlling, had it been clearer, ones went to 7000 and the best to 9000.
