VE Day...

I shall not forget VE day and I was on watch in the morning and we were very busy dropping canisters of food on The Hague as the people in this area of Holland were starving as they had only recently been liberated. We were relieved very late as the oncoming watch told us that there was a special celebratory lunch, but when we got there it had all gone and we had to make do with corned beef and mashed potato!

The food dropping lasted for a short time and then the ops were finished and I note from my diary that our time was spent helping to dismantle the barbed wire fencing and similar tasks.
