VJ Day...

On VJ day my friend Edna and I decided to go to London. We left camp at mid-day (after each washing and ironing a shirt to wear) We cycled to Yarmouth and then hitched to London and were in Trafalga Square by 7pm and then joined the crowds in front of Buckingham Palace and cheered the king and members of the royal family when they appeared on the balcony. Later we went by underground to Tooting and spent the night with my Aunt and Uncle and Cousin who was a pilot having also arrived having hitched from Cambridge.

We left the next afternoon and hitched back to Yarmouth. It took four hours to hitch from North London to Yarmouth and the total cost of the memorable trip was 4/1- four shillings and a penny each.
