Life at Prestatyn...

Prestatyn was quite operationally and only a few enemy aircraft were noted. By 1943 the raids on Liverpool were over but we were busy with tracing flights and skipping movements were passed to the Liverpool Naval Plotting room every half hour. Each watch had a WREN on duty for this, but we all shared the work. Off duty time was very pleasant. Most of us had our own bikes and went to places like Colwyn Bay, Denbigh or St Asaph on our day off, Chester was only about 1/2 hour by train. We often went to concerts in Rhyl, sometimes by the Halle Orchestra and there was a recorded classic music circle weekly in Prestatyn. There were two cinemas in the town, and sometimes in the evening the Flight Sgt would ring the ops block to know if there was trouble as the aerials had stopped at a certain time- he was at the cinema and the aerial sweeps caused interference on the screen.
