Winterton's Watch...

Operationally, Winterton was most interesting. Each watch consisted of 4 or 5 WAAF operators with a Cpl 1/C and a day staff Sgt. There were usually two mechanics on watch and a day staff Flt Sgt and an officer. The controller was a RAF officer ex-bomber command air crew, one for each watch. The duties were 8-1, 1-6, 6 to end of ops.

The morning watch was usually resorted to maintenance of equipment. Training flights with the mosquito aircraft and analysing results of the previous day's operations and cleaning the block.


During the 1-6 watch we were usually busy.
