U3A teams and Friends of CHiDE team recruited and trained

U3A Groups and Themes

Five U3A groups are participating in the project. They are:

Basildon, Essex, who will be looking at domestic technology

Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire,who will be investigating the impact of changes in agricultural technology and industrial processes in their local area

Southampton, Hampshire, who will be talking to former employees of Vosper Thorneycroft about technological developments in ship building

Stamford, Lincolnshire, who have taken building conservation technology as their theme

Wokingham, Berkshire, who will be looking at the impact of the communications technology revolution on the local community and economy

The Friends of CHiDE will be developing earlier work on the development of radar, gathering recollections from those involved in this pioneering work to help contextual images from the Fisher archive.
