Clay Bricks
Materials
Clays for bricks should be composed of
well-blended materials which will produce a good quality product. If lime,
which is sometimes added, is not finely ground it will cause "lime
blows". This occurs when particles of burnt lime (quicklime) near the
surface of the brick expand in contact with rainwater, blowing small and
unsightly conical holes in the face of the wall.
