Welding Metal

Intense heat is applied to the two pieces of metal at the point by which they are to be joined, until they reach melting temperatures and become molten. A filler material is then inserted into the joint and the molten metals mix together. On cooling they solidify to form one piece.

Riveting Metal

A rivet acts like a screw or bolt to join separate pieces of metal together. In the riveting process, a hole is first drilled through the two parts that need to be joined, and then the rivet is inserted. It is hammered flat from the other side so that it permanently changes shape to lock everything in place.
