Connie Nuttall was accepted into the ATS in October 1941, aged 21. She wasn't called up on her initial training until June 1942 when she was selected to go on to train as a driver. As a driver, Connie's first posting was to the Royal Military College at Sandhurst but after two years there, she and a friend volunteered to serve overseas. Connie found herself posted to Belgium where she drove the ambulances to pick up the wounded, brought in by aeroplane from the front, and take them to the hospital.
