Talking About Technology

  • will be unique in capturing and preserving an archive of memory which focuses on the changing technology in the twentieth century.It will collect source material in a neglected domain of twentieth century social history
  • is of national cultural significance as it will reveal the impact on people's lives that changes in these technologies have created. It will put on record the stories of those who have influenced these changes and also the meanings that ordinary people attach to technology
  • will be unique in intimately linking images and testimony at all stages of the project
  • will create a unique multi-media compilation that is widely accessible. Interpretative presentations and a searchable database will be disseminated on the Internet as a resource for life-long learning. These will contribute to the National Grid for Learning and will also be available on CD-ROM
  • will establish a model of best practice for conserving and presenting the dynamic interplay of image and recollection, which could be applied generally to image archives
