Oral History Research Unit |
The Oral History Research Unit at Bournemouth University has ceased active operation as an archive, and is not currently undertaking external projects or consultancy. This site will remain live for the forseeable future to provide access to the material we have gathered during the ten years of our activity. Individual members of staff remain active in oral history in the University, pursuing personal research interests. We also offer a specialist short course in Oral History for Archaeologists. Please contact us for further information about our current research interests. As a Research Unit our mission was to explore new ways of understanding change through oral history and to harness the power of the Internet in presenting oral testimony in the virtual museum environment. We also conducted special projects. The Centre for the History Of Defence Electronics, CHiDE, was the embryo of the Research Unit. Follow the link on the left to find out about the history of CHiDE and the work that has been achieved. Our most recent project, Talking About Technology, was a Heritage Lottery funded project in which the University of the Third Age collaborated in the collection of oral testimony on a range of technological themes. Follow the Projects and Oral History links to find out more about this and other recent projects.
