This was
the original room, it was part of the offices when Melbourn's first started as
a brewery, it wasn't used as a shop or an office, until Mr Melbourn took over,
it was living accomodation with rooms above, but Mr Melbourn decided to turn it
into an off license in about the 1980s...sorry 1880s and he turned it into an
off license, and the room to the right of it he turned into an office, now this
remained an off license right until the brewery closed in 1974, and then it was
empty for a little while and then was leased. At first as a green grocers- then
it became- oh let me think- green grocers, from a green grocery it went to a
baker, from a baker it went to a wine shop, then the rooms above was altered
and it was turned into a cafe, then it went to a wine bar and then it
eventually closed and it stood empty from about 1978, it was empty then right
up until this new owner decided to spend all of his money and do it
up.
