I was born in Switzerland - and I grew up in
Switzerland, so my very earliest memories were from that time. I can remember
my Mother and the whole family - used to get involved in the washday - the big
washday - it was once a month - and that was quite an event in that
household.

Talking about washday - or even thinking about washdays, when I
think back they were always very stressful - everybody seemed to be involved,
because in those days there were no - no gadgets to help - or very few gadgets
which helped and the fact was, we lived in an old house - a town house, with
three stories - we had a flat on the first floor, and there were two other
families above us. And in the attic was the wash-house, and so everything had
to be taken up on the day of the wash and the preparations before hand were
quite extensive. |
