Oh they were very good, yes. They were quite simple to use, yes.

Ah, yes, that was all done by hand at school, yes, but when I was older I used to make clothes of course by machine. Yes, I did make my trousseau every stitch by hand. Spun silk in very delicate colours, pale pink and peach and pale greens, and those sort of...then net edging, you know.

How long did it take you?

Oh, months and months, of course, while you were courting, you know. I mean you couldn't get married straight away in those days, like they do now. Very delicate stitches, and pure silk, you sewed with too, yes.
