Yes, I remember buying all from Bentalls, silk thread, pure silk thread - and a very fine needle too, yes.

Did you have a sewing machine?

Not straight away, no, but I did, I did invest in a hand sewing machine, yes.

Mother had, she had, if I remember rightly she had an electric engine added to her treadle machine originally - and then she had a proper electric sewing machine which made life a lot easier for her, yes. I had a Frister Rosman, a hand machine. It was very good.

How much did it cost?

Six guineas!
