I recall it started with a copier which would do just two tapes at a time which initially was not so bad when we had a low number of listeners but very long-winded as numbers increased up to and above one hundred, and we were very glad when we could afford a large machine which could copy four tapes from the master tape in a very few minutes.

A volunteer would come in to perform just that task while someone else put them in the yellow post-free wallets ready for the GPO to collect. These wallets had been returned from the previous week and the tapes had been taken out and put on the tape-cleaning machine ready for reuse.

Then the wallet had the return label turned over in it's slot, to show the listeners address again, and these jobs were performed by a different set of volunteers to those who sat and read the news excerpts into the microphone each week, which were recorded by the technician onto the master tape.
