Peter remembers the smell of hot metal in the linotype bay where the linotype machines were based. The Telegraph Newspaper in Fleet Street where Peter worked for 15 years had a whole battery of 70 linotype machines and the smell of hot metal was mingled with printing ink. This smell remains with Peter today- it takes him back 52 years.
