Ronald Sturt's study trip to
Sweden in 1968 enabled him to see the talking newspaper tapes being made
for the blind; as well as library provisions for young offenders in prisons.

Ronald came away very impressed
by his experiences, and in particular that of the prison library service.
When he came back to Aberystwyth he was asked to the Round Table- as he
gave many talks to the "town and gown" to explain what he had
seen and learnt in Sweden.
He mentioned the prison initiative
as well as the talking newspapers, and they latched onto this concept
immediately, therefore encouraging Ronald to start fundraising for the
UK version of the talking newspapers.
